Soy-Free MSG-Free DIY Homemade Sazon Recipe

I scoured the internet for the perfect Sazon recipe and learned quite a bit in the process. For example, did you know that culantro is NOT a misspelling at all but actually a cousin of the cilantro we all know so well? It is primarily used in Asian and Carribean cuisine. It is actually stronger than cilantro, so don't even try substituting! Go AUTHENTIC!

Also--once you start using this sazon mix regularly in different dishes, you might notice a passion for a specific spice in the mix! Mine was the cumin and oregano, which I seem to always add a pinch or dash more than the recipe calls for!

Sazon Recipe

Ingredients:

1 Tbsp Celtic Sea Salt (you can sub this with whatever salt you have but celtic is healthiest)

1 Tbsp Organic Ground Black Pepper

1 Tbsp Granulated Garlic Powder
1 Tbsp Organic Dried Oregano (You can sub this with Simply Organic Italian Seasoning)

1 Tbsp Organic Cumin

1 Tbsp Ground Coriander (aka culantro)

(optional) 1 Tbsp Ground Annato or Paprika (some people like this for rice recipes but I don't like it in my beans so I leave it out)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mix all ingredients into an empty spice container. Every one and a half teaspoon is equal to ONE packet of Goya Sazon seasoning.

So where do you BUY all the seasonings? Well, this week you're in luck...Abe's Market has them on SALE! Woo hoo!!

If you want to buy in bulk, which is definitely pretty cost-effective if you use a lot of something, I suggest Costco or Amazon for the major leagues...the only prob is that buying in bulk might cause something to spoil more quickly...so I'd rather go a bit more expensive with the fresher, smaller containers.

So now that we have the SAZON, do you miss that black bean recipe on the back of those Goya cans? Can't have them because of soy allergy or MSG intolerance? Well....

Not to brag, but the BEST soy-free Black Beans you've EVER had....WILL BE MY NEXT POST! stay tuned...
